  • Review: Expeditions

The eyes of the world are on Siberia, where a massive meteorite crashed near the Tunguska River, reawakening ancient corruption. An expedition led by Dr. Tarkovsky ventured into the taiga to uncover more about the meteorite and its impact on the land. Eager for adventure, heroes from the war privately fund their own Expeditions to Siberia in hopes of finding artifacts, conquering challenges, and ultimately achieving glory.

This is the premise of Expeditions, designed by Jamey Stegmaier (Scythe, Viticulture). First published in 2023 by Stonemaier Games in English, with art provided by Jakub Rozalski (Hero Brigade, Scythe).

  • Review: Planet Unknown

Greetings, planetary colonists. As you know, we have depleted Earth’s resources and must act now to preserve the future of humanity. You have been chosen to develop a Planet Unknown that will ensure mankind’s survival. You will win the game if you are the player who earns the most Medals. To achieve this, efficiently develop your Planet, advance along your resource tracks, collect Pods, remove Meteorites, and outscore your neighboring Planets.

This is the premise of Planet Unknown, designed by Ryan Lambert and Adam Rehberg (co-designers of Swordcrafters and Truck Off: The Food Truck Frenzy). It was first published in 2022 by Adam’s Apple Games, LLC following a successful Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign. Illustrations were provided by Yoma (Legacies, Sweet Mess).

  • Review: The Oracle of Delphi

For once, Zeus, the Greek god of thunder and the sky, is in a good mood and has decided to offer a gift to the most worthy mortal: entry into Mount Olympus. To select the ideal candidate, Zeus has organized a competition in which daring mortals must attempt to fulfill 12 legendary tasks: erecting statues, building shrines, making offerings, and facing mythological monsters. The first to successfully complete all 12 tasks will earn the favor of the father of the gods.

This is the premise behind The Oracle of Delphi, a game by the Eurogame God Stefan Feld, designer of celebrated titles such as The Castles of Burgundy, In the Year of the Dragon, Bora Bora, Aquasphere, and Trajan. The game was published in 2016 by Hall Games in its English edition, which, as usual, was also distributed by Pegasus Spiele in an English/German edition. The illustrations are by Dennis Lohausen, who had previously illustrated titles such as Terra Mystica, A Feast for Odin, and Qin.
